Chateau Marjosse Bordeaux, Rouge 2022

Ownership and Winemaker: Pierre Lurton.

Château Marjosse Bordeaux Rouge 2022 is a lively, fruit-forward red Bordeaux with more freshness and precision than you might expect from the vintage. It combines ripe black and red fruit, floral lift, and gently polished tannins, making it one of the estate’s best-value wines.

Critic tasting notes: (2022 vintage)

"Black cherries, currants and flowers show in the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, forward, elegant and fruity. This should deliver pleasure with ease on release. Drink from 2025-2030. 89-91 Pts." - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (90/100)

"This is pretty and vibrant, showing subtle cream to the red berries, currants and citrus on the nose. Quite firm and juicy on the palate with lightly chewy tannins and a fine, medium-long finish. Merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink from 2025." - James Suckling

Blend & Style

The blend is mainly Merlot, with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Malbec. In 2022 it was made in a style that emphasizes freshness, balance and drinkability, while still giving the wine enough structure to age for several years.

Tasting Note

Color: Dark ruby with a dense, youthful core.

Nose: Blackberry, blackcurrant, red cherry, menthol, licorice, orange zest and a touch of spice.

Palate: Medium-bodied to medium-plus, with creamy texture, juicy fruit, fresh acidity and tannins that are present but already fairly polished.

Finish: Clean, savory and fairly long, with black pepper, graphite and a lifted mineral edge.

Buying Outlook

This is a very smart everyday Bordeaux for buyers who want quality without paying grand cru prices. The 2022 vintage has enough ripeness and concentration to be appealing now, but reviewers also see decent cellaring potential, with drinking windows commonly stretching into the early 2030s.

Food Pairing

It works well with grilled steak, roast lamb, duck, mushroom dishes, and Bordeaux-style braises. It also suits charcuterie, burgers, and hearty vegetarian dishes with lentils or roasted vegetables.
