Chateau Palmer Margaux (Minimum order: 6 bottle case) FUTURES 2025 Pre-Arrival
Third Growth. Troisieme Grand Cru Classe in 1855.
Château Palmer Margaux 2025 is poised to be a deeply refined, sensuous and structured expression of Margaux, crafted by one of the appellation’s most admired “super seconds.” It brings together the estate’s trademark perfume, velvety texture and precision, offering a grand, cellar‑worthy red with clear luxury appeal in en primeur.
Critic tasting note: (2025 vintage)
"Deep dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening. Black berry fruit, a hint of cassis, delicate nougat, subtle spice, inviting bouquet. Complex, juicy, black cherries, fine extract sweetness, ripe tannins, mineral aftertaste, nougat touch on the finish, great length, sure maturity potential, seductive style." - Falstaff (99/100)
"Iris, violets, and roses might start the aromatics, but that's not all there is, as you also find cherries, currants, dried flowers, and hints of spice, which are all front and center. The palate, however, is the star of the show. The combination of vibrant, sweet, ripe, clean, and pure fruits, coupled with its vivid energy, drives the long, seamless, elegant, and sensuous finish. There is concentration and power, but everything is so refined that it is not something you notice. The finish starts off slowly, building into a crescendo of perfectly ripe fruits. The key to the vintage was the late-August rains, which allowed for lower ABV and better fruit maturity. The wine blends 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 41% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. 13.5 % ABV, 3.7 pH. The yields were small at 20 hectoliters. The harvest took place from September 4 to September 25. This is the earliest start to a harvest in the history of the estate. Drink from 2030-2070." - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (99/100)
"Plush is the word to describe this red. Full-bodied and layered, with velvety tannins and a savory finish. Juicy at the end. Flashy and posh. Plenty of blackberry and black currant aromas and flavors." - James Suckling (97-98/100)
Site & Identity
Situated on the higher gravel rises of Cantenac in Margaux, Château Palmer benefits from a mosaic of classic Guntz gravels with a significant clay component, an uncommon combination that underpins both finesse and power. The vineyard is planted almost equally to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Petit Verdot, and has been fully biodynamic since 2014, Demeter‑certified from 2018, giving the wines a particularly vibrant, terroir‑driven character. In the 2025 vintage, Margaux is described as concentrated yet fresh, with cool Atlantic influence preserving acidity and precision—an ideal backdrop for Palmer’s sensual but structured style.
Technical Tasting Note (En Primeur)
-
Appearance: Deep, dark ruby with a saturated core; not fully opaque, but dense and vibrant in color.
-
Nose: Red and black fruits (black cherry, cassis, plum) lifted by floral tones of violets, with hints of graphite, sandalwood, subtle spice and a fine, earthy-mineral undertone, in keeping with recent benchmark vintages of the estate.
-
Palate: Medium to full-bodied, carried by the vivacity of Merlot and the backbone of Cabernet; shows concentrated yet fresh fruit, fine‑grained dense tannins that are supple and non‑astringent, and a flowing, seamless texture.
-
Finish: Long, persistent and balanced, supported by lively acidity and ripe tannin, promising both early charm and the ability to evolve gracefully for 20–30 years or more.
Winemaking & Style
In 2025, Château Palmer is built predominantly on Merlot (around 55%) with Cabernet Sauvignon (about 41%) and a small proportion of Petit Verdot making up the remainder, reflecting the estate’s unusually Merlot‑rich profile for Margaux. Alcohol is around 13–13.5%, with density coming more from tannin quality and extract than from high degrees, which keeps the wine energetic rather than heavy. The overall style aligns with Palmer’s modern benchmarks: sensual, perfumed and texturally rich, yet underpinned by serious structure, biodynamic precision and clear Margaux typicity.
Food Pairing
A superb partner for fillet of beef, lamb with herbs, veal, game birds, truffle dishes and refined mushroom cuisine. Its combination of perfume, depth and freshness also makes it an ideal choice for long‑term cellaring to accompany future special occasions and haute cuisine menus.
