Chateau Ausone Saint Emilion 1er Grand Cru A Classe 2013

Prior to the 2022 vintage, this wine was classed as Premier Grand Cru Classe A.

Chateau Ausone Saint Emilion 1er Grand Cru A Classe 2013 is a wine of utmost finesse. Its beautiful ruby color allures with fragrant aromas of red berries, violets, and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, it unveils a delicate balance between vibrant red fruits, silky tannins, and a touch of minerality. With its refined structure, impeccable precision, and a lingering finish, this vintage exemplifies the artistry of Chateau Ausone.

Critic tasting note: (2013 vintage)

"Plenty of ripe red and black berries, but also some candied orange and mint. Generous blackcurrant-pastille character is married to slightly rustic tannins, but they were (quite rightly) cautiously extracted. Nice length and pretty good harmony at the finish for this vintage. Drink or hold. Château Quintus vertical tasting. SP." - James Suckling

"Deep garnet in color with crushed rock, black raspberry liqueur and flowers on the nose. Sweet, luxurious, sensuous and velvety, this wine pleases the palate with a burst of ripe plums. The oak is completely integrated. Finally, an Ausone that does not demand decades to come around! With a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot, the yields were only 22 hectoliters per hectare. That means that only 750 cases will be produced in this vintage. The wine is aging in 85% new French oak barrels. The Grand Vin represents 67% percent of the harvest." - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

"93–95. Barrel Sample. Although not the most powerful Ausone, this is still a serious wine, with ripe tannins and dark berry and plum fruits. It is structured, showing new wood characteristics and dense tannins, with freshness on the finish. At only 9,000 bottles, this is the smallest vintage production ever for this estate." - Wine Enthusiast
