Verget Pouilly-Fuisse Les Combes Vieilles Vignes 2025
Previously, this wine was labelled as Terroir de Pouilly Les Combes.
Verget Pouilly-Fuissé “Les Combes Vieilles Vignes” 2025 is a rich, precise white Burgundy from old-vine Chardonnay at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. It combines ripe orchard fruit and creamy oak with vibrant acidity, flinty minerality, and a long saline finish.
Producer and vineyard
Verget is a leading Mâconnais producer, with Jean-Marie Guffens known for pushing ripeness and flavor while retaining tension and precision. Les Combes is a lieu-dit at the base of the Roche de Vergisson in Pouilly-Fuissé, on clay-limestone soils.
The vines are exceptionally old, planted between 1917 and 1953. They have a mixed exposure: mostly south-facing for ripeness, with a significant north-facing component that preserves freshness and balance.
Winemaking and style
Grape: 100% Chardonnay.
Harvest: manual, with successive selections to pick only the ripest fruit.
Vinification: gentle pressing, free-run juice only, and slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels.
Oak: about 25% new oak.
Aging: 7–8 months on fine lees with moderate bâtonnage.
Tasting profile
Appearance: Pale to light golden yellow with bright, luminous highlights.
Nose: Ripe pear, white peach, candied citrus, hazelnut, fresh butter, and a gunflint-like mineral note.
Palate: Ample and creamy on entry, with a dense yet precise texture. Vibrant acidity carries white peach and candied lemon through the mid-palate.
Finish: Taut, long, and saline, with excellent persistence and a mineral-driven close.
Drinking window and food pairing
This is a serious, age-worthy village-level Pouilly-Fuissé with the structure to evolve for roughly 8–15 years in a cool cellar.
Serve at 12–14°C with roasted white fish, scallops, lobster, chicken or turkey in cream sauce, mushroom dishes, and aged Comté.
