Producer Tasting Notes

It is tempting to compare 2025 to 2022, another recent vintage with a very hot, sunny profile. Yet, what is most impressive about La Conseillante 2025 is its freshness, tension, and aromatic precision. With its balance between generosity and structure, the wine promises to be one of the estate’s great classic vintages. It displays superb finesse and elegance; it is intense, seductive and with a saline finish that lingers on the palate to prolong the enjoyment.

Critic tasting notes: (2025 vintage)

"Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, subtle edge brightening. Delicate floral nuances of candied violets, a hint of blackberries and sour cherries, some cloves, a hint of sour cherries and mandarin zest. Juicy, highly elegant, delicate extract sweetness, silky tannins, finesse-rich acidity, harmonious and already so well developed that one would like to start enjoying it immediately, great length, finesse and sure maturity potential. Fascinating." - Falstaff (100/100)

"Violets, lilacs, and chocolate drizzles, followed by plums, black cherries, blue fruits, licorice, smoke, and truffles, create the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is pure silk, velvet, and cashmere, perfectly suited to the seemingly endless waves of sweet, bright, plush fruits, with their freshness, elegance, and stunning sense of purity. The finish lingers past the 60-second mark and keeps going long after the wine has gone where it needs to be. One of the keys to the success of the dry 2025 vintage began a few years in advance, with the addition of compost to the vineyards, aiding water retention, helping the fruit gain maturity, and increasing yields. The wine blends 87% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon along with 8% press wine. 13.5% ABV, 3.66 pH. The harvest took place from August 28 to September 17. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2030 to 2065." - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (99/100)

"Complex already, with blackberry, blueberry, currant and mint aromas that follow through to a medium body with firm tannins and a savory, juicy finish with fresh herbs and an almost rose stem undertone. You can feel the grape skins. Very primary. 87% merlot, 10 cabernet franc and 3% cabernet sauvignon." - James Suckling (97-98/100)

PRESENTATION

The name of La Conseillante first appeared 300 years ago, when the influential merchant from Libourne, Catherine Conseillan, acquired the property and bequeathed to the estate a feminine version of her surname: La Conseillante. Nicknamed "the iron lady," she undertook renovation work on the property and increased the vineyard's surface area. The vineyard now covers 12 hectares. Five generations later, the mosaic of plots remains unchanged.

TERROIR

The 12-hectare plot of land making up the property, unchanged since 1871, allows La Conseillante to perpetuate its exception. An average density of six thousand vines per hectare, constant attention and tailored care for vine cultivation, the only guarantees of impeccable health, serve as a reminder that without quality grapes, wine is nothing. The terroir consists of 60% gray clay and 40% sandy gravel, resting on red clay (iron dirt).

WINEMAKING

Cold pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days, maceration for 28 to 30 days, 5% of the production in full vinification.

AGEING

70% in new French oak barrels, 30% in barrels of a wine, duration: 15 months.

VARIETALS

Merlot 87%, Cabernet Franc 10%, Cabernet Sauvignon 3%.
