Patrick Bouju - Domaine de la Boheme 'Super B' Rouge 2022
No added sulfites
Patrick Bouju – Domaine de la Bohème “Super B” Rouge 2022 is a pure, biodynamic Gamay from Beaujolais that delivers depth, energy and serious structure while staying juicy and highly drinkable. It is a complex, dark‑fruited, naturally made red with fine tannins and vibrant freshness, positioned as a “super Beaujolais” for adventurous and quality‑focused drinkers.
Site & Identity
“Super B” is sourced from granite‑soiled parcels in the south of Beaujolais, including sites in Moulin‑à‑Vent and Brouilly, planted with massale‑selection Gamay. The fruit is farmed organically and biodynamically and worked by Patrick Bouju & Justine Loiseau, who are key figures of the Auvergne/Beaujolais natural‑wine scene, known for dense yet highly drinkable, low‑intervention wines.
Technical Tasting Note
Appearance: Bright ruby‑red with good intensity and a youthful, translucent core that hints at both freshness and concentration.
Nose: Intense red‑fruit aromatics of cherry, griotte, raspberry and mountain cranberry, with notes of blackberry, baking spice, flowers and a light herbal edge.
Palate: Medium‑bodied, concentrated yet lively, with pure, crunchy red berries layered over fine, chiselled tannins and bright, refreshing acidity. The wine shows depth, earthiness and energy, combining Beaujolais charm with a more serious, structured backbone.
Finish: Fresh, long and persistent, echoing red cherry, spice and subtle herbal notes with a nicely tart, mouth‑watering finish that invites another glass.
Winemaking & Style
Super B 2022 is 100% Gamay from old vines on granitic terroirs, worked organically and biodynamically. Whole‑cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts is followed by élevage in a mix of tanks, demi‑muids and/or amphora; bottling is done without filtration and with no added sulfites, at about 13% alcohol. The style is that of a structured yet highly digestible natural Beaujolais: earthy and dark‑fruited, with finely etched tannins, explosive berries and floral notes, and plenty of energy.
Buying Outlook
“Super B” is an excellent reference for a serious, terroir‑driven natural Gamay and is often allocated or limited per customer due to strong demand. For a focused selection, it offers a powerful story—cult producer, Beaujolais granite, no‑sulfur, biodynamic farming—and clear added value over generic Beaujolais or Vin de France Gamay. It shows very well now with a short decant but also has the structure and acidity to evolve positively over the next 6–8 years.
Food Pairing
Super B 2022 pairs beautifully with charcuterie, grilled meats, burgers, roast chicken, duck, and flavorful Mediterranean or Asian‑spiced dishes. Its fresh acidity and fine tannins also make it ideal with tapas, spicy plates, barbecue, and semi‑firm cheeses, where its juicy fruit and energy can really shine.
