Chateau Pontet Canet Pauillac 5th Grand Cru Classe 2019

This vintage showcases the precise winemaking techniques of Chateau Pontet Canet, with a long, expressive finish that promises a great aging potential.

Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac 5ème Grand Cru Classé 2019 is a biodynamic Grand Cru from Pauillac in Bordeaux, France, delivering impressive depth, purity, and finesse from a historic 81‑hectare estate now farmed fully organically and biodynamically.

Tasting Profile

The wine shows an intensely dark color with purple glints and a highly expressive bouquet of lilacs, peonies, dried flowers, graphite, cedar wood, wild dark fruits, redcurrants, sweet plums, kirsch, crème de cassis, and hints of dark chocolate and rosehip tea. On the palate it is full‑bodied, rich and concentrated yet elegant, with layers of ripe black and red fruit, cracked black pepper, licorice, Ceylon tea, mineral and smoky notes, supported by ultra‑fine, ripe tannins, lovely acidity, and a very long, spicy, minerally finish.

Grape Composition & Style

  • Blend: Around 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.

  • Alcohol: Approx. 13.5% ABV.

  • Style: Powerful yet refined Pauillac with great aging potential, showing the estate’s hallmark combination of purity of fruit, polished tannins, and terroir‑driven minerality.

Terroir & Viticulture

  • Location: Pauillac, Left Bank, Bordeaux, on deep gravel soils over limestone.

  • Farming: Certified organic and biodynamic (Ecocert, Biodyvin); extensive use of horses for ploughing to protect soil structure, cover crops, composts, and biodynamic preparations to enhance vitality and precision in the wines.
