Producer Notes
Our Grand Vin Château Pichon Baron 2nd Cru Classé in 1855 comes from the very oldest vines grown on the historic plots of the estate. This authentic Pauillac offers an amazing sensory experience with its black fruit flavours and spicy hints. Château Pichon Baron shows great elegance, intensity and exceptional length on the palate. It is a wine that improves year after year and can age for over 40 years in the cellar.
Vintage Notes
A relatively dry and mild winter 2024-2025. Early budburst, with limited shoot growth. No frost recorded. A mild and wet spring, with a risk of mildew. Warm and dry conditions set in early. Late May: a uniform and very rapid flowering under ideal conditions. Late July: a cooler period with some rainfall, allowing the vines to recover after the hot weather. Veraison began on 30th July. Mid-August: a new heatwave accelerated ripening and enhanced polyphenol synthesis.
Critic tasting notes: (2025 vintage)
"Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate rim brightening. Ripe black cherries, fine cassis, a hint of precious wood, delicate nougat, tobacco nuances, inviting bouquet. Taut, tightly woven, ripe cherry fruit, extract-sweet texture, fine tannins, freshly structured, mineral-lemon nuances on the finish, shows energy and length, sure maturity potential." - Falstaff (99/100)
"The complex aromatic profile expresses flowers, black currants, licorice, black cherries, cocoa, espresso, cigar wrappers, and a touch of mint. The palate delivers a beautiful combination of vitality, sweetness, energy, and purity in the fruits. The long, vibrant finish is packed with layers of fruits. Yet, even with all the concentration, there is an elegance, and regal charm meshed with power. The endnotes continue expanding, and building long after the wine has left the glass. This modern classic will be great with just 3-5 years of bottle age. It also has the potential to age and evolve for 3 - 4 decades. The vintage was shaped in large part by daily tastings of the berries in each parcel, and even single rows of vines, seeking the best moment to pick. Another factor was which tanks to use for fermentations as well as what parcels went into specific tanks due to the vintages low yields. The wine blends 84% Cabernet Sauvignon with 16% Merlot. 13.3% ABV, 3.72 pH. The harvest took place September 8 - September 24. This marks the earliest start for a harvest in the history of the estate. Yields were quite low at 24 hectoliters per hectare. The wine is aging in 70% new, French oak barrels. Drink from 2032-2070." - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider (98/100)
"A very structured red with intense tannins, finishing polished and refined. It's medium-to-full-bodied with super creamy tannins and a long finish. Granular tannins." - James Suckling (96-97/100)

WINEMAKING
Selective picking was crucial again this year. Our pickers carefully selected the grapes, which were then taken to the vat room to be inspected again by the sorters before the optical sorting process. This rigorous approach, which resulted in the elimination of 3 to 5% of the harvest, produced a result of exceptional quality. We used all the techniques at our disposal to make the most of this delicate harvest: a gravity-fed process, light sulphiting combined with yeast-based bioprotection, wild yeast, low fermentation temperatures and slow, steady extraction with light pumping-over and delestage.
The 2025 vintage joins the lineage of the great “5” vintages. It stands out for its controlled power, harmonious balance, and pronounced tannic structure, offering an extremely promising overall profile.
