Domaine Labet Cotes du Jura Chardonnay La Bardette 2022
Domaine Labet is run by Alain Labet and his son Julien Labet who produces also his own wines with the name Julien Labet.
Domaine Labet Côtes du Jura Chardonnay La Bardette 2022 is a serious, mineral Chardonnay from old vines on marl and limestone, showing the precision, depth and intensity that define the Labet style. It is aromatic, layered and very long on the finish, with a profile that feels like a cross between a top Meursault and a steep-slope Riesling in its focus and drive.
Site & Identity
La Bardette is one of the Labet family’s most important Chardonnay terroirs, with old-vine plantings dating back to the 1940s on shallow clay over Bajocian limestone. The soil is very calcareous, with visible fossils and shells just below the surface, giving the wine a distinct chalky, saline character and a chiseled, “limestone” tension.
Technical Tasting Note
Appearance: Pale gold to intense straw-yellow with golden reflections.
Nose: Citrus, grapefruit, white peach, stone fruit, flint, chalk, hazelnut, noble reduction hints and subtle grilled, toasty notes.
Palate: Energetic and precise, with bright acidity, layered texture and a concentrated core of citrus and mineral flavors. The 2022 shows depth and plénitude, with a sensual, ripe side tightly framed by sharp, chalky acidity.
Finish: Very long, saline and mouthwatering, with citrus, stone and subtle menthol, chalky echoes and a persistent mineral grip.
Winemaking & Style
Vinification follows a classic Burgundian routine for Chardonnay: soft pressing, static settling, clean fermentation and aging in used Burgundy barrels for around 18–20 months, with very low sulfur. The style is quintessential Jura Chardonnay: aromatic, floral and mineral, with obvious structure, textural richness and a very clear, almost “mapped” expression of the terroir.
Buying Outlook
La Bardette 2022 is a top buy for customers who want a serious, ageworthy Chardonnay with real identity and energy. The vintage is described as radiant and deep, with excellent intensity and acidity, making it compelling both for near-term drinking and mid-term cellaring.
Food Pairing
It pairs beautifully with duck, goose, game birds, roasted poultry, turbot, sole and other noble white fish. It also works very well with aged Comté, Beaufort, mushroom dishes and refined cream-based cuisine where acidity and mineral cut can balance richness.
