Domaine Labet Cotes du Jura Les Parcelles Rares Sur Charriere Poulsard

Domaine Labet is run by Alain Labet and his son Julien Labet who produces also his own wines with the name Julien Labet. Natural wine

Domaine Labet Côtes du Jura Les Parcelles Rares Sur Charrière Poulsard 2023 is a delicate, perfumed red from very old Poulsard vines on a tiny west-facing parcel at 350 m altitude, showing the precision, finesse and aromatic complexity that define the Labet style. It is a light-bodied but deeply expressive Jura red, with bright acidity, fine tannins and a clear, almost mapped expression of terroir.

Site and identity

Sur Charrière is a micro-parcel of about 0.46 ha, planted in 1969 (with additional mass-selection plantings in 1994), on clay and blue Lias marl soils. The west-facing slope and old vines give the wine concentration and aromatic lift, while the low yields and careful farming emphasize purity and detail.

Technical tasting note

Appearance: Brick-red to pale ruby, relatively light in color but with a luminous core.

Nose: Crushed red fruit (redcurrant, raspberry, cherry), rosehip, rose notes, subtle spice, fine grilled and chalky touches, and aromatic herbal hints.

Palate: Very round and fleshy, fruity and juicy, with rare finesse; crunchy, elegant red fruit, vibrant acidity and fine, present tannins. The 2023 is described as a model Poulsard — super-croquant and elegant, with notable energy and aromatic intricacy.

Finish: Long, fresh and mouthwatering, with lingering red fruit, spice and a mineral, slightly chalky echo.

Winemaking and style

Vinification is without inputs, followed by aging in 228 L barrels, without fining and often without filtration. The style is a distinctly Jura take on Poulsard: light in color but deep in flavor, with bright acidity, aromatic purity and a mineral, almost “mapped” expression of the site. Despite the pale robe, the 2023 reds from Labet are described as deep wines that unfold slowly in the glass.

Buying outlook

Sur Charrière 2023 is a top buy for customers who want a serious, ageworthy Jura Poulsard with real identity and energy. The vintage is described as needing air to relax, but once opened it shows excellent intensity, complexity and length, making it compelling both for mid-term cellaring and for adventurous, terroir-focused wine lists.

Food pairing

It pairs beautifully with Morteau sausages with lentils, potée, grilled meats, roast poultry and light game dishes. It also works very well with Comté, mushroom-based cuisine and refined Burgundian-style dishes where acidity and mineral cut can balance richness.
