Jacques LASSAIGNE Millesime Brut Nature, Champagne 2017
Jacques Lassaigne Millésime Brut Nature 2017 is an exclusive Blanc de Blancs from Montgueux that shows 2017’s ripe Chardonnay fruit wrapped in a laser‑sharp, chalky, mineral frame. It is a powerful, vinous and very dry vintage Champagne with great length, patisserie complexity and a distinctly saline, terroir‑driven personality.
Site & Identity
Emmanuel Lassaigne farms around 4–5 hectares of Chardonnay on clay‑and‑chalk soils in Montgueux, in the Aube, all worked organically with a strong focus on parcel expression and low intervention. The Millésime Brut Nature is his flagship vintage Blanc de Blancs, capturing a single year’s character and Montgueux’s hallmark combination of ripe white fruit, pastry richness and incisive mineral tension.
Technical Tasting Note
Appearance: Medium to bright gold with a fine, persistent mousse, suggesting both ripeness and extended lees aging.
Nose: White‑fleshed fruit and citrus—pear, apple, lemon—layered with brioche, butter, cream, marzipan and nutty nuances, plus a marked chalky, saline mineral note.
Palate: Powerful and vinous yet sharply defined, echoing patisserie flavours (croissant, butter, almond) over a core of citrus and green apple, with vibrant acidity and strong Montgueux minerality driving through the mid‑palate.
Finish: Long, fresh and intensely chalky, with lingering pastry notes, white fruit and a saline edge that underlines both structure and aging potential.
Winemaking & Style
Millésime 2017 is 100% Chardonnay from Montgueux, organically farmed, fermented with native yeasts and aged for an extended period on lees; Lassaigne’s Millésime cuvée is typically aged around 7–8 years before disgorgement. It is bottled as Brut Nature (0 g/l dosage), with no fining or filtration, which lets the vintage fruit, lees complexity and chalk‑and‑clay terroir show with maximum clarity and tension. The style is that of a serious, mineral, gastronomic Blanc de Blancs: rich and patisserie‑laden but also vibrant, saline and extremely precise.
Buying Outlook
Champagne Jacques Lassaigne Millésime 2017 is a high‑value grower Champagne choice for clients seeking a top Blanc de Blancs with strong terroir identity and no‑dosage purity. It offers impressive depth and aging potential while remaining markedly mineral and food‑oriented, making it ideal for serious Champagne collectors, restaurant lists and anyone building a focused grower‑Champagne selection.
Food Pairing
This cuvée pairs beautifully with oysters, raw or lightly cooked shellfish, sashimi, grilled turbot or sole, and refined white‑sauce dishes. Its combination of pastry richness and chalky salinity also makes it superb with roast chicken, veal in cream sauce, aged Comté or Parmesan, and elegant celebratory cuisine.
