Julien Prelat Presle Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Champagne NV

Julien Prélat “Presle” Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is a Côte des Bar grower Champagne made from 100% Chardonnay, with a fresh, precise, and mineral-driven profile. It is a clean, food-friendly Blanc de Blancs with citrus, orchard fruit, white flowers, and a long saline finish.

Producer and vineyard

Julien Prélat is a third-generation vigneron based in Celles-sur-Ource in the Côte des Bar, southern Champagne. He farms about 2.5 hectares without herbicides or pesticides and focuses on single-varietal, terroir-driven cuvées.

Presle is a Chardonnay cuvée from the Côte des Bar, a region known for Kimmeridgian limestone and marl-clay soils rich in marine fossils. Recent releases have been based on the 2023 vintage.

Winemaking and style

Grape: 100% Chardonnay.
Dosage: Extra Brut, around 4 g/L.
Vinification: stainless-steel vinification to preserve fruit purity and freshness.
Aging: lees aging in bottle before disgorgement; recent disgorgements include March 2022 and March 2023.
Production: limited, with recent releases around 3,100 bottles.

Tasting profile

Appearance: Pale yellow with green reflections and a fine, persistent mousse.
Nose: Bright lemon zest, green apple, pear, white flowers, and subtle brioche and chalky mineral notes.
Palate: Light to medium-bodied, silky, and delicate, with crisp acidity, ripe orchard fruit, and a clean mineral backbone.
Finish: Long and citrus-driven, with a saline, refreshing close.

Drinking window and food pairing

Best enjoyed now through the next 6–8 years, with the freshness and structure to develop gently in a cool cellar.

Serve at 8–10°C as an aperitif or with oysters, shellfish, crab, lobster, white fish, and light seafood dishes.
