La ROGERIE Le Bourg Sud Grand Cru (based 22) NV
La Rogerie Le Bourg Sud Grand Cru Réserve Perpétuelle (base 2018–2022) is a precise, terroir‑driven Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut from old‑vine Chardonnay in Avize and Oger, built as a perpetual cuvée to layer depth over vibrant Côte des Blancs tension.
Terroir and blend
The wine is 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards: around 90% from the south‑facing Le Bourg Sud site in Avize and about 10% from neighboring parcels in Oger. Vines are massale‑selected and planted circa 1960 on 50–70 cm of chalk over pure limestone, giving very low yields and marked saline, chalky minerality.
Winemaking
Le Bourg Sud is a réserve perpétuelle: the 18–22 edition blends base vintages 2018–2022, with reserve wine held in 15 hL foudres and topped up each year. Fermentation and aging take place in 228–400 L French oak (new to five‑year barrels) plus the large foudre, followed by 24–36 months on lees in bottle; dosage is Extra Brut, around 2 g/l, with disgorgement for this 18–22 release in January 2025.
Tasting profile
Tasting notes for Bourg Sud Réserve Perpétuelle describe an expressive yet razor‑cut Blanc de Blancs. On the nose you can expect ripe citrus (lemon curd), white flowers, warm brioche, bread dough and a very clear chalky mineral signature. The palate is creamy but extremely precise, with fine, persistent mousse, flavors of lemon curd, juicy green apple and a touch of pear, wrapped in saline, almost umami‑like minerality that drives a long, elegant, mouth‑watering finish.
Character and food pairing
Within the La Rogerie range, Le Bourg Sud is positioned as a flagship Grand Cru wine that combines depth and energy in a style often compared to taut, modern white Burgundy from chalky terroirs. It is particularly well suited to refined seafood (oysters, sashimi, scallops, lobster), citrus‑accented white‑fish dishes, and delicately sauced poultry where its combination of creaminess, cut and salinity can shine.
