Philippe PACALET, Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022
Philippe Pacalet Bâtard‑Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 is a powerful yet finely etched Grand Cru Chardonnay from Bâtard‑Montrachet, expressing both the innate richness of the terroir and Pacalet’s low‑intervention, highly terroir‑driven style.
Terroir and philosophy
The wine comes from Bâtard‑Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune, on limestone‑rich soils that give great natural power but also pronounced mineral backbone and tension. Pacalet works with meticulous viticulture and a “naturalist” approach in the cellar (native yeasts, minimal manipulation, emphasis on transparency) to let this Grand Cru site speak as clearly as possible.
Tasting profile
The nose is described as profound and aristocratic, with layers of ripe orchard fruits, citrus oil and white flowers, accented by subtle honey, fresh almonds and crushed stones. On the palate, the wine shows magnificent concentration and volume yet remains focused: rich and expansive texture, vibrant acidity providing perfect tension, pronounced mineral drive from the limestone soils and an extraordinarily long, multi‑layered finish where fruit, mineral notes and delicate spice keep unfolding.
Style, aging and serving
This 2022 combines the warmth and ripeness of the vintage with precise structure, illustrating both the depth of Bâtard‑Montrachet and Pacalet’s commitment to terroir transparency. It is 100% Chardonnay, recommended to be served around 10–12°C and has the constitution to age for many years, gaining further complexity and nuance in bottle.
