Cayuse Vineyards Armada Vineyard Syrah 2015
The 2015 Cayuse Armada offers a stunning display of purity and precision. Aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, and graphite intermingle with savory notes of cured meats, dried herbs, and crushed rock. The palate is beautifully layered, with flavors of blackberry, blueberry, and licorice wrapped around a core of vibrant acidity and silky tannins. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of dark fruit and minerality. A wine of exceptional depth and complexity, the 2015 Armada is a true masterpiece.
This is the only one of Cayuse's single-vineyard Syrahs to be produced this vintage due to a bottle closure issue. The aromas are locked up on first pour, with notes of fire pit, green olive, smoked ham, blackberry underbrush, mineral and smoked meat. The palate is flavorful, full of smoke and meat notes that linger on the extended finish. Sean P. Sullivan
Robert Parker (Wine Advocate) -
The 2015 Syrah Armada Vineyard is superb, wafting from the glass with a complex and savory bouquet of dark chocolate, peat, candied violets, plums and marinading meat. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and layered, with a deep core of sapid fruit framed by powdery, fine-grained tannins and concluding with a saline finish. Seamlessly integrated and elegant, the 2015 was harvested on September 9 and fermented with 60% to 70% whole clusters, finishing with 13.7% natural alcohol. It was matured in foudres and demi-muids, seeing 10% new oak and—as has been the case since 2011—no smaller cooperage. - Reviewed by William Kelley
