Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Blanc Grand Cru 2024 is a rare white Burgundy from the Musigny Grand Cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny. It is the only white Grand Cru in the Côte de Nuits, made from Chardonnay planted on about 0.65 hectares inside Musigny. The wine combines tropical fruit, acacia blossom and a distinctive iodine note with freshness and a pithy, mineral finish.
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of the most historic estates in Chambolle-Musigny and the largest owner in the Musigny Grand Cru, with about 7.2 hectares of the vineyard. Its holdings give it an unusually strong position in the cru, and the estate is known for precise, terroir-driven wines with long ageing potential.
Musigny is one of the great Grand Crus of the Côte de Nuits, celebrated for its perfume, finesse and depth. The white Musigny comes from a small parcel of Chardonnay inside the Grand Cru, which gives the wine a distinct identity within a region dominated by red Pinot Noir.
The 2024 Burgundy vintage produced wines of freshness, energy and clarity, with moderate alcohol levels and good balance. Critics have singled out the vintage for its transparency and finesse, qualities that suit a delicate white Grand Cru like Musigny Blanc.
The wine is made from Chardonnay grown within the Musigny vineyard and aged in oak barrels. Following the estate's practice for its Grand Cru wines, a substantial share of the oak is new. The 2024 is reported to have been aged in a small number of barrels, reflecting the limited production.
The bouquet shows exotic tropical fruit, acacia flowers and iodine, layered over the chalky, mineral character of the site. On the palate, the wine balances freshness and fruit, with a slightly waxy entry and a pithy, spicy finish that carries the mineral signature of Musigny.
Musigny Blanc is a wine that needs time in bottle to show its full complexity. Early in its life it is tightly focused, and it is expected to develop texture and depth over the following years. Specific drinking windows for the 2024 are not yet firmly established by major critics.
Serve at 12–14°C with dishes that complement its texture and mineral tension.
Musigny Blanc is one of Burgundy's most unusual and sought-after white wines, given its Grand Cru status and tiny production. The estate's long declassification (1993–2015) and subsequent return to Grand Cru status make the wine a distinctive item for collectors of white Burgundy.
Recommended serving: serve at 12–14°C in a large white Burgundy glass, and allow a short time in the glass to open the aromatics.
