DOMAINE de TREVALLON Rouge IGP Alpilles 2017
Critic tasting note: (2017 vintage)
"Trévallon is an exceptional wine. A giant. A bit like the “Pétrus” of Provence. And because of this notoriety and the breathtaking quality of the wines produced there, we sometimes forget that the creation of this estate is quite recent. It was only in 1976 that the first vintage of Trévallon saw the light of day. Founded by Éloi Dürrbach, this superb estate in Les Baux-de-Provence is located in the commune of Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, on the northern slopes of the Alpilles. I don’t remember tasting a better vintage of this wine. What a nose! Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grown biodynamically, this incredibly complex wine, with aromas reminiscent of scrubland, blackberries, blueberries, spices and truffles, demonstrates an astonishing liveliness bringing remarkable balance to this otherwise generous and fleshy wine. Here, it's not just wine, it's almost art! Will easily keep until 2029. Decant for 30 minutes and serve at 17 °C. Will accompany grilled duck breast, pot-au-feu, or lamb chops marinated in port." - 91/100, Bacchus Magazine
