Domaine DUJAC Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2022

Domaine DUJAC Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is a true masterpiece from this renowned estate. This wine showcases the essence of the Bonnes Mares terroir with remarkable finesse. From the very first sip, you'll encounter a harmonious interplay of dark fruit, earth, and spices. It has a captivating depth and complexity that defines the great Burgundian Pinot Noir. With its elegant structure and long-lasting finish, this Grand Cru is a testament to Domaine DUJAC's commitment to excellence.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate:

The 2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with notes of raspberries, cherries, blood orange, exotic spices, vine smoke and rose petals. Full-bodied, seamless and concentrated, with a deep and multidimensional core, sweet tannins and lively acids, it concludes with a long, mineral finish.

Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018—tasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and élevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Rémond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity. - Published: Jan 18, 2024 - Reviewed by: William Kelley

Vineyard notes:

"The Bonnes Mares Grand Cru lies between the village of Morey-Saint-Denis to the north and Chambolle-Musigny to the south, halfway up the hillside where the slope is very steep (11%). The plot ranges in altitude from 278 to 296 meters. The lieu-dit faces east. The soil changes from east to west. The reddish-brown soil in the eastern part is 40 to 50 cm thick, with frequent blunt crinoidal limestone fragments (calcaire à Entroques). To the west, the light-colored soil is about as thick, but less stony, with some small oyster shells. Two different types of substratum underlie Les Bonnes Mares. In the eastern part, ocher limestone rich in debris from marine organisms (calcaire à Entroques) crops out in places, because there was once a quarry in this Grand Cru. In the upper quarter of the plot, to the west, this limestone is overlain by marls rich in small oyster shells (marnes à Ostrea Acuminata)."
