The Producer
Domaine Dujac is one of Burgundy’s most admired estates, founded in 1967 by Jacques Seysses and now led by the Seysses family. Although best known for its Pinot Noirs from Morey-Saint-Denis, the domaine has developed an increasingly important white-wine programme in the Côte de Beaune.
Dujac began farming Puligny-Montrachet parcels in 2014, including holdings in Les Combettes and Les Folatières. The estate works with indigenous yeasts, uses gravity-fed cellar movements and ages its whites in carefully selected oak barrels, prioritizing terroir expression and balance over overt richness.
Vineyard and Terroir
Les Combettes lies on the northern side of Puligny-Montrachet, directly beside the Meursault appellation. It is one of the few Puligny Premier Crus with a slightly broader, more generous character, while still retaining the chalky tension that defines the village.
Dujac’s 0.62-hectare parcel sits at 249–264 metres on a southeast-facing slope with a 9% gradient. Its soil is around half a metre deep and contains silt, sand and clay over angular white limestone; the underlying hard “Pierre de Chassagne” limestone contributes to the site’s structure and mineral precision.
The 2024 Vintage
The 2024 Burgundy growing season was exceptionally difficult, marked by heavy rain, cool temperatures and widespread mildew pressure. Humid conditions during flowering caused significant coulure and reduced crop levels, while persistent rain made vineyard management demanding.
In Puligny-Montrachet, harvest began on 16 September. Yields were modest—approximately half of the abundant 2023 harvest—but the grapes that remained were in excellent sanitary condition. The resulting whites are expected to be fresh, energetic and mineral-driven, with cool-vintage acidity rather than overt tropical richness.
Winemaking and Ageing
Dujac’s Chardonnay is hand-harvested and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The juice is moved by gravity to the cellar, where it undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts.
The wine is aged for approximately 14–18 months in oak barrels. The domaine selects its barrels well in advance to ensure proper seasoning, aiming for subtle oak integration that supports the wine’s fruit, texture and limestone-driven structure.
Expected Tasting Profile
As an unreleased 2024, this wine should be understood as a wine of tension, energy and ageing potential rather than immediate opulence. Les Combettes typically offers a broader, rounder profile than Folatières, but the 2024 vintage should preserve notable freshness and definition.
Expect white flowers, citrus, white peach, orchard fruit and a subtle chalky, saline finish. With barrel ageing, delicate hazelnut, pastry and toasted-nut nuances are likely to emerge, while the wine’s mineral backbone keeps the profile precise and focused.
Aroma and flavour: white flowers, citrus zest, white peach, green apple, crushed limestone, hazelnut, pastry and saline minerality.
Palate: medium- to full-bodied yet energetic, with ripe orchard fruit, vibrant acidity, fine texture and a long mineral finish.
Style: a refined, age-worthy white Burgundy—generous by Combettes standards, but shaped by the 2024 vintage’s coolness into a wine of freshness, tension and clarity.
Drinking Window
As an unreleased 2024 white Burgundy, this is primarily a cellaring wine. It should benefit from several years in bottle after release, allowing its oak, texture and mineral complexity to integrate.
A realistic drinking window is likely to begin around 2029–2032 and extend for a decade or more under good cellar conditions. Serve it initially at 11–13°C and allow it to open gradually in the glass.
Food Pairing
Once mature, pair it with lobster, scallops, turbot, sole, roasted chicken, guinea fowl or veal in a delicate cream sauce. Its freshness and mineral structure also suit white asparagus, mushrooms, truffle dishes and semi-aged cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Avoid very spicy or heavily smoked dishes, which could overwhelm the wine’s fine fruit and chalky precision.
Collector Note
This is a rare allocation wine from one of Burgundy’s leading producers, working with a small parcel in one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most sought-after Premier Crus. Dujac’s Combettes is produced in limited quantities, and the reduced yields of 2024 are likely to make availability especially tight.
The combination of Dujac’s reputation, the limestone-rich Combettes terroir and the freshness of the 2024 vintage makes this a compelling long-term proposition for collectors of white Burgundy.
Recommended serving: after several years of cellaring, open and allow ample time in a large white-wine glass—or decant briefly—to reveal its full aromatic complexity and mineral depth.
