Domaine DUJAC Monts Luisants Morey-Saint-Denis Blanc Premier Cru 2024

The Producer

Domaine Dujac is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates, founded in 1967 by Jacques Seysses and now led by the Seysses family. The domaine is celebrated for its Pinot Noirs from Morey-Saint-Denis, but its small white-wine programme has become equally distinctive.

Dujac’s Monts Luisants Blanc comes from a rented 0.6-hectare Chardonnay parcel on the upper slopes of Morey-Saint-Denis. The wine is a rarity in the Côte de Nuits, where white wine production is limited, and it reflects Dujac’s commitment to site-specific, low-intervention winemaking.

Vineyard and Terroir

Les Monts Luisants is a large Premier Cru climat on the upper slopes of Morey-Saint-Denis, close to Clos de la Roche and above Les Genavrières. Dujac’s parcel lies at approximately 300–340 metres, on a stony, limestone-rich hillside with marl and scree.

This elevated, well-drained terroir gives the Chardonnay both concentration and freshness. The limestone brings tension and saline minerality, while the higher altitude and cooler nights help preserve aromatic definition and acidity—qualities that are especially important in the 2024 vintage.

The 2024 Vintage

The 2024 Burgundy growing season was exceptionally challenging, with heavy rainfall, cool temperatures and significant mildew pressure. Humid flowering conditions led to poor fruit set and reduced yields, while persistent rain made vineyard work particularly demanding.

In Morey-Saint-Denis, the surviving fruit was generally in good sanitary condition. The resulting whites are expected to show cool-vintage freshness, moderate alcohol, crisp acidity and pronounced minerality, with less tropical richness than riper recent vintages.

Winemaking and Ageing

Dujac’s whites are handled with the same precision as its reds. The Chardonnay is hand-harvested and gently pressed in a pneumatic press, then transferred by gravity to the cellar for fermentation with indigenous yeasts.

The wine is aged for approximately 14–18 months in oak barrels. Dujac selects its barrel wood well in advance to ensure proper seasoning, using a significant proportion of new oak but aiming for integration rather than overt oak flavour.

Expected Tasting Profile

As an unreleased 2024, this wine should be approached as a tightly structured, mineral-driven white Burgundy with considerable ageing potential. Monts Luisants typically offers more depth and extract than a village-level white, with orchard fruit, citrus and a saline finish.

Expect aromas of white flowers, lemon zest, green apple, pear, white peach and subtle pastry or hazelnut notes from barrel ageing. The palate should be incisive and concentrated, with a chalky mineral core, vibrant acidity and a long, penetrating finish.

Aroma and flavour: white flowers, lemon zest, green apple, pear, white peach, hazelnut, pastry, wet stone and saline minerality.

Palate: medium- to full-bodied, precise and layered, with ripe orchard fruit, vibrant acidity, fine texture and a long mineral finish.

Style: a serious, age-worthy white Burgundy—rare for the Côte de Nuits, combining depth and richness with the tension, purity and stony precision of Monts Luisants.

Drinking Window

As an unreleased 2024 white Burgundy, this is primarily a cellaring wine. It should benefit from several years in bottle after release, allowing its oak, texture and mineral structure to integrate.

A realistic drinking window is likely to begin around 2029–2032 and extend for a decade or more under good cellar conditions. Serve it initially at 11–13°C and allow it to open gradually in the glass.

Food Pairing

Once mature, pair it with lobster, scallops, turbot, sole, roasted chicken, guinea fowl or veal in a light cream sauce. Its acidity and mineral precision also suit white asparagus, mushrooms, truffle dishes and semi-aged cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.

Avoid very spicy or heavily smoked dishes, which could obscure the wine’s fine fruit, floral notes and chalky structure.

Collector Note

This is an exceptionally rare white Burgundy from one of Burgundy’s leading producers, made from a small Chardonnay parcel in a Premier Cru more commonly associated with Pinot Noir. Dujac’s Monts Luisants Blanc is produced in very limited quantities, and the reduced yields of the 2024 vintage are likely to make availability even tighter.

The combination of Dujac’s reputation, the elevated limestone terroir of Monts Luisants and the freshness of the 2024 vintage makes this a compelling long-term proposition for collectors seeking distinctive, age-worthy white Burgundy.

Recommended serving: after several years of cellaring, open and allow ample time in a large white-wine glass—or decant briefly—to reveal its full aromatic complexity, texture and mineral depth.
