George Comte de VOGUE Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2012

Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2012 is a powerful, age-worthy red Burgundy made from Pinot Noir in the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru vineyard on the Côte de Nuits. The 2012 combines dark and red berry fruit with floral, earthy and mineral notes; reviewers describe a firm tannic frame, lively acidity and a long, structured finish.

Producer and vineyard

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is based in Chambolle-Musigny. Bonnes-Mares is a Grand Cru vineyard shared between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis; the domaine’s holding is in Chambolle-Musigny, on clay-limestone soils. The wine’s style is generally more powerful and structured than the domaine’s Chambolle-Musigny bottlings.

Winemaking and style

Grape: Pinot Noir.
Appellation: Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy.
Alcohol: approximately 13.5% ABV.
Aging: aged in small oak barrels for about 18 months, with roughly 40–45% new oak; clarified with egg whites and lightly filtered before bottling.

Tasting profile

Appearance: Deep ruby with bright crimson tones.
Aromas: Raspberry, cherry, plum and blueberry, with violets, peony, licorice, mint, spice, graphite and earthy notes. Some tasters find the nose initially reserved or lightly reductive, so it may benefit from air.

Palate: Broad and concentrated, but balanced by freshness. Supple fruit sits over a substantial, firm tannic structure, with mineral and savory character.

Finish: Long and persistent, with fine acidity, firm tannins and lingering red fruit, spice and earth.

Drinking window and serving

This remains a structured wine with potential to develop further. One published recommendation gives a drinking window of 2020–2035; bottle condition and storage will matter, so open with a careful check of the cork and wine.

Serve around 16–18°C. If it seems closed, give it time in the glass or decant gently; pair with roast duck, game birds, lamb, or dishes with mushrooms.
