Pierre Péters L’Etonnant Monsieur Victor, Edition MK 14, Blanc de Blancs, Grand Cru, Brut 2014 is a highly selective, limited‑production Chardonnay Champagne from Le Mesnil‑sur‑Oger, blending the 2014 vintage with the estate’s old perpetual reserve for depth and complexity.
"The robe is clear yellow gold with hints of green which are typical of the Chardonnay varietal. The mousse is fine and regular with a pretty ribbon of strong bubbles. Strong and elegant. The attack is finesse, complexity and power with a wide range of aromas. First with acacia, hawthorn and peach, the nose then evolves to orange zest, pear and almond milk. Once aerated, the first notes of spice (gingerbread) and dried flowers appear before to make way to a creamy chalkiness. The attack is very pure. A sensation of smoothness and strength follows. Aromatics of ripe dried fruit such as tangerine, apricots and hazelnut along with sweet flowers and toasty notes. The steely core fails to conceal the concentration and complexity which promises to evolve over many of aging." - Champagne Pierre Peters
The wine is 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Le Mesnil‑sur‑Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Edition MK14 is based on the 2014 harvest, complemented by about half reserve wines drawn from Rodolphe Péters’ perpetual reserve going back to the late 1980s, giving a layered, multi‑vintage character.
The cuvée is vinified in stainless steel with long lees aging in bottle (around 5–6 years) before disgorgement. It is bottled as Extra‑Brut/Brut with a low dosage of around 4 g/l to emphasize tension, chalky minerality and precision rather than richness from sugar.
Descriptions of MK14 highlight a brilliant golden color with a very fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with yellow and white fruits, acacia and other white flowers, moving toward notes of lemon zest, saffron, marzipan, brioche and toasted hazelnut as it opens in the glass. On the palate it is dense yet smooth and incredibly focused: vibrant citrus and grapefruit, Mirabelle plum and orchard fruits wrapped in chalky minerality, scalpel‑sharp acidity, and a long, layered finish where citrus, sweet spice and fresh hazelnut linger.
MK14 is often described as a Champagne of gravitas and power that still retains Mesnil’s hallmark verticality and saline cut. It suits refined pairings such as oysters, sashimi and sushi, lobster salad, butter‑poached white fish, or poultry in light cream or citrus‑accented sauces, and it can comfortably age further in the cellar.
