As my philosophy professor used to say: ‘Classics should be respected!’. So I’ll try to write about my slight disappointment with DRC – still showing respect for this domain. The life of every wine is fleeting, and it’s understandable why winemakers strive to produce more and more wines that can be consumed young every year. DRC is no exception, but rather the opposite, they’re at the forefront of Burgundy winemaking. It’s pointless to argue with this, as well as with the greatness of this Domain.

Echezeaux 2020 is a striking example of the manifestation of terroir in the context of the difference between wines of one domain.

A series of hot years – 2018-2020 – gave very rich, dense wines, and the difference in terroirs became even more pronounced. Echezeaux 2020 is a striking example of the manifestation of terroir in the context of the difference between wines of one domain. I can’t say that this wine was bad, but it was far from the level of elegance that other wines of the estate show. It may have closed, but remembering my impressions of the Grands Echezeaux 2020, I can say that both these wines are much simpler than the wines from the vineyards of Vosne-Romanée.
