Petrus is one of the greatest wines in the world. It is as foolish to disagree with this as with the genius of the works of great masters of painting and music. This wine will always be beyond trends and fashion, because it is an eternal classic. The year 1959 is of particular interest to me. It is the year my father was born, and for me it is very meaningful. The vintage, I would like to note, is simply excellent. Petrus showed an example of how a great wine should age and evolve. Everything is visible in the color. It is still far from its peak. In the aroma, it has incredible layering and complexity. Shades of candied red and black berries were complemented by tones of dried herbs, flowers and undergrowth. The signature licorice shade, characteristic of old Pomerol wines, looked very delicate here, and emphasized the breed of this wine. Fantastic level! Considering the age, I decided to open it with port tongs. Out of respect for the age, this is the best method.
