To understand wine, you need to drink it. Drink it for your own money and in the company of like-minded people. Sommeliers today don’t quite understand this, but everything has its time. One of my friends, a professional billiard player, once said: ‘When you play billiards for money, your skill increases twofold’. Same is with wine. When you start buying it – you start to feel the value of it personally. DRC is the benchmark of great Burgundy wine – you need to try it at least once to understand – by what everything is driven there. Even if you come across a wine that raises more questions, this only helps to find answers.
This is not the top level wine, but the pleasure is the same if not greater
Their Corton caused skeptic thoughts among most advanced consumers from the very first vintage. But for me this is a very bright example of the highest wine quality, made by professionals. 2017 is in excellent shape now. The primary aroma – the red ripe berries – is complemented by shades of dry foliage and dried flowers. The taste is very juicy and long. A real hedonistic wine. And this is not Echezeaux. Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Duvault Blochet 2020 showed all its beauty. Ripe red berries, a pinch of oriental spices, red pepper and blood orange zest. Wine in perfect shape! Pleasure beyond all expectations. Again, this is not the top level wine, but the pleasure is the same if not greater.
