Echezeaux 2020 is a striking example of the manifestation of terroir in the context of the difference between wines of one domain. I can’t say that this wine was bad, but it was far from the level of elegance that other wines of the estate show.

One of my friends, a professional billiard player, once said: ‘When you play billiards for money, your skill increases twofold’. Same is with wine. When you start buying it – you start to feel the value of it personally.

When Jean Phillips founded her estate, she certainly did not know about the impact it would have on modern California winemaking. After a very short time it became the embodiment of the Californian wine dream.
