Domaine Jean-Jacques CONFURON Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Fleurieres 2020

Domaine Jean‑Jacques Confuron Nuits‑Saint‑Georges Les Fleurières 2020 is a village‑level Pinot Noir from the southern edge of Nuits‑Saint‑Georges, combining classic NSG power with an unusually refined, cool‑toned profile in this vintage.

Critic tasting note: (2020 vintage)

"Fragrant lavender, raspberries, dried herbs and a touch of orange peel on the nose. It’s focused on the palate, compact, with a medium body and firm finish. Drink or hold." - James Suckling

Terroir and viticulture

Les Fleurières lies right against the southern border of Nuits‑Saint‑Georges, on light, fine soils of clay, sand and stones that were historically used as the town’s gardens and allotments. The domaine farms about 1.23 ha here, with vines planted in the 1970s, now fully mature and capable of giving concentrated but balanced fruit.

Winemaking

The wine is 100% Pinot Noir, hand‑harvested and organically grown, then vinified in the Confuron style aimed at clarity and definition rather than heavy extraction. Fermentation and élevage in oak (with a measured proportion of new barrels) build structure and complexity while keeping the tannins fine‑grained and supple.

Tasting profile (2020)

Critic notes describe a restrained, cooler and slightly more elegant nose, with ripe red currant, raspberry, hints of lavender, dried herbs, orange peel and a touch of forest floor. On the palate, it is medium‑bodied, focused and tense, showing juicy red fruit, a subtle mineral thread, good length and a firm but not austere, gently dusty finish.

Aging and food pairing

Suggested drinking starts around 2026, with the structure to evolve positively for a further decade, gaining more sous‑bois and spice complexity over time. It suits roast duck or chicken, game birds, veal, and savory mushroom dishes that can echo its mix of red fruit, earth and mineral notes without overwhelming its finesse.
